036 The Gathering 8!

Honest Electronics

Branding / Art Direction / Production

2023

The Gathering ! is an annual 3-day electronic music festival organized by Honest Electronics set in Kampia, Tamassos. It is a Do-It-Together event with no sponsors, made by and for artists.

The Gathering 8 ! marks the 8th year since The Gathering ! began, back in July, 2016. It is the 8th rotation, and given the disruptions of the past years, it feels like we’ve come full circle again — we’re back somewhere we’ve been before, only it’s completely different this time — we’re different.

In 2023 we went back to basics: a collective experience revolving around two-stages; one for night and one for day. When one stage is open, the other is closed. We’ll all stay together and we wont miss a show. Like a figure of eight, around and around we went. 48 into 8 gives us eight 6-hour sessions, running from 7 to 1 and then 1 to 7; because 7 plus 1 takes us back to eight again.

032 When The Ear Tells The Eye

LLC

Poster Design

2023

Concrete sound mirror, benches and activation transmission by LLC (Emiddio Vasquez and Peter Eramian)

LLC (Emiddio Vasquez & Peter Eramian) invite you to Asomatos, Limassol, to encounter a concrete sculptural environment cast in-ground and extracted on site, amongst the orange grove trees of Morir Soñando. Following multiple collaborations since 2016, this is their first land work together as LLC, introducing a new framework for their joint research and practice endeavors.

‘When the ear tells the eye where to look’ interweaves histories of the land, heritage and colonialism to resuscitate alternative modes of listening. LLC presents an environment of ritual, tributing the ear and grounding the act of listening as more than just passive auditory perception, towards deep listening as a social practice that mirrors what Ivan Illich calls “tools for conviviality”. With fragments of broken Cypriot ceramic money-banks – a saving habit of older generations – used to suspend the rebar and then congealed into the concrete sculptures, further suspending the current logics of value production, exchange and extraction.

031 222555

Ichomagnetic Thoughts

Identity / Poster Design

2023

222555 is a synthesis of an antipode. It's an album of noise and peace, harmony and dissonance, love and anguish, connection and dismantling, cold technology and warm nature. It is a reflection of a common dream we both (Ichomagnetic thoughts) had when we were children and we found out about it randomly (?). In the dream we were both in the same forest, but on opposite sides with contrasting environments experiencing two different micro-worlds.

Throughout the album, there are opposing sound materials existing simultaneously. They give meaning to one another, providing direction and sustenance. The space that emerges between these oppositions provides a much needed solace. In the wake of substantial change and dismantling, comes a requiem.

024 Anthograms

Mary Plant

Book Design

2023

Inspired by Meleager's Stephanus and his association of poetry with flowers, anthograms, an alphabet based on fruit, trees and flowers was created in 2000 to provide text for a series of paintings "Aphrodite's Garden". A wish to write these texts in a new 'language' relevant to the Aphrodite led me to a further stufy of ancient Greek poetry and to research the connection between Aphrodite/Love/Fertility with flowers and fruit.

A number of anthogram poems have been sent to poets all over the world who were asked to put them into language, to interpret them. The aim was the creation of a multilingual anthology in which, not only the anthogram poems but most poems would be read visualy by individual readeers who would probably only know very few of the languages. So far there have been poems written in twenty languages.

Anthograms is a limited-edition artists' book published on the occasion of Mary Plant's retrospective exhibition curated by Marina Christodoulidou and Marina Demosthenous.

023 The Broken Pitcher

GzZK Leipzig / Thkio Ppalies / Beirut Art Center / Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst / Lenbachhaus

Movie Branding / Publication Design / Poster Design / Movie Titles

2022

The crucial occurrence of The Broken Pitcher (brokenpitcher.net) is a meeting at a bank in Nicosia, Cyprus, in 2019, deciding over the foreclosure of a family house. The negotiation between bank employees and the affected family is reenacted in a short video based on memory protocols of those involved. The foreclosure is one of many on the island and is a result of the agreement between Cyprus and the Troika (EC, ECB and IMF).

The filmed responses that are shown encompass perspectives of people from different interest groups in Cyprus and beyond, including housing rights activists, people who share similar fates, public figures, lawyers, economists and artists contextualising debt and tributes in relation to the micro- and macro effects of colonial history.

The Broken Pitcher is conceived and organised by Natascha Sadr Haghighian, Marina Christodoulidou and Peter Eramian, and co-produced by Thkio Ppalies and GfZK in Leipzig.

2021

AAll the work was created between the 17th of October and 21st of November 2020 at ARTSLab during the watercolour workshop called “Spontaneous Provocations” by Efi Savvides & Rena Strati.

“Blight” has many interpretations, mostly characterising ominous conditions such as a cause of frustration or the rapid discolouration of a plant tissue caused by fungi which is called as such. These pieces were created amidst the haze of last winter’s difficulties and uncertainties. Τhis exhibition aims to shift light towards uncomfortable emotional topics and their value. An observation of our strength and courage. The acknowledgement of trauma is an unavoidable part of the healing process and the common material that has bonded the presented body of work.

Elpida Constantinou,
Fotini Lamnissos,
Andreas Z. Mallouris,
